Holly Swift
Originating from small scale sketchbook drawings and paintings made after much time on location Swift interprets the sensibility of specific natural sites and the ecology of her subject matter.
Light is of paramount concern and most profoundly challenges her perception. It continually shifts, by virtue of weather and season revealing and dissolving color and form. Every choice she makes intends to build a bridge between commitment to the visual impact of the image itself and the transitory field of perceptual information experienced during a period of time in a particular place.
The audience’s peripheral vision is filled by the large scale waterfall paintings made subsequently in the studio. A visual record of previous deliberations the paintings show dashing light and changing color, criss crossing angles, and the weight of the earth supporting the powerful flow of water.
